FAU Hosts Virtual Symposium with Quindio University, Colombia

FAU has begun discussions with Quindio University in Colombia to explore possibilities for the social work, nursing and medicine programs at both universities to engage in research collaboration, interprofessional education and practice, as well as study abroad programs.

To kick off the conversation, the Phyllis & Harvey Sandler School of Social Work in the College of Social Work & Criminal Justice, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine and Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing hosted a bi-lingual (English and Spanish) symposium on November 13, 2020.  More than 250 students, faculty and staff attended the virtual event, during which they were introduced to both universities’ program offerings.

“This transdisciplinary partnership with Quindio University in Colombia demonstrates the unbridled ambition and commitment of our institution to elevate our academic excellence through international alliances that enable us to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities around the world,” said Dr. Naelys Luna, MSW, Interim Dean of the College of Social Work & Criminal Justice.

“The partnership between FAU and Quindio University provides great academic, practice and research opportunities for our students and faculty with the goal of creating healthy communities around the globe,” said Dr. Safiya George, Dean of FAU’s College of Nursing.

Faculty and administrators from both universities will continue working together to explore a more formal collaboration.  Additional details are expected in early 2021.
