2021 Lamplighter Scholarship Recipient Maggie Demars

Accelerated BSN student Maggie Demars appreciates the support of scholarships to help finance her academic studies at Florida Atlantic University Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. As a recipient of the Lamplighter Nursing Scholarship, she was able to purchase books and cover the expenses necessary to complete a full-time program. “I am honored to have been selected in this program,” she remarked, noting that students often do not have enough time to work to earn the additional income to help with school expenses. The scholarship, she said, provided some financial relief, expressing her gratitude to those who donated to the program. “It will help the growth of the next generation of nurses,” she added. Her advice to future nursing students is to set aside time for self-care. “It’s important to take care of yourself in order to have the energy to care for others.”

Following graduation, Maggie plans to pursue a career in pediatric emergency medicine. “It is rewarding to me to work with this community because they are so fragile and so resilient. Pediatric patients are typically hopeful and full of smiles which make coming to work fun and gratifying.”
