Drs. Nancy Harris, Kathi Harvey, Shirley Gordon and Diane Esposito will participate in research on the potential long-term health impacts of harmful algal bloom exposure, funded by the Florida Department of Health. The CON team will work directly with Adam Schaefer, MPH, Principal Investigator from FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute on the study. The $650,000 DOH grant was awarded to Florida Atlantic University, University of Florida, University of Miami and Florida Gulf Coast University to support efforts to improve the understanding of the potential long-term impacts of harmful algal blooms like blue-green algae and red tide. The College of Nursing investigative team will be working to collect human biological samples from residents living in Stuart, Clewiston, and Fort Myers.
