Celebrating Achievement: Spring 2024 Pinning Ceremony
Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing hosted the Spring 2024 Pinning Ceremony on May 2, marking the culmination of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for its graduating students. The event, steeped in tradition and significance, commenced with heartfelt welcome remarks from Dr. Michelle Broadbent, Interim Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs, and Dean Safiya George, setting a tone of celebration and reflection. The Pinning Ceremony signifies the completion of the nursing program and the official initiation into the profession.
Graduate Stephen Benitez and Assistant Professor Dr. Mary Ann Leavitt, chosen by the students to speak at the event, reflected on the journey that this graduating class has taken and the challenges they have overcome to obtain their degrees. Starting the nursing program in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic meant the students – and the professors alongside them – had an educational experience like no other class before them. Dr. Leavitt commended the students for their success and said that the Pinning Ceremony serves as a reminder of their dedication and perseverance. The ceremony proceeded with the recognition of distinguished students who exemplified excellence in various domains. Coordinator of Simulation and Professional Practice Lab Suzie Kaye presented student Lily Rafacz with the Daisy Award and the signature lapel pin and a "Healer's Touch" hand-carved stone sculpture. Dr. Nancy Harris, Director of Nurse Practitioner Programs, announced the awards honoring achievements in scholarship, leadership, clinical practice, service, and caring.
