10 Nurse Practitioner Students Accompanied Drs. Goodman and Hain To Rural Guatemala
Nov 15, 2019
This past week, 10 nurse practitioner students accompanied Drs. Rhonda Goodman and Debra Hain to rural Guatemala to provide health care to almost 500 indigenous Maya persons of all ages. Primary care clinics were provided, as well as women’s clinics, screening for cervical cancer. Students provided culturally-respectful and appropriate care, as well as learned much about the culture of the indigenous peoples and the social determinants of care in rural Guatemala. In addition, local nursing students were mentored. On their morning off, the students hiked to the top of Volcan Pacaya, where they roasted marshmallows and made smores!
