Biography

Dr. Shaw has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. She started her medical-surgical nursing journey in Jamaica and had a brief hiatus from nursing after pursuing a business degree and working in the banking industry. She continued her nursing journey working in the operating room as a staff nurse and later as a clinical educator in the perioperative (Pre, intra and postop) department. She earned her B.A. (Finance) (2001) at Florida international University, MSN (Education) (2010) at the University of Phoenix and her PhD (2019) at Barry University. The focus of her dissertation research was mental illness, using qualitative methodology she developed a theory (Transcendental Dynamism) that explained Critical Factors Influencing Jamaicans’ Attitudes, Perceptions, Behaviors, and Knowledge Toward Mental Illness.
