Professional Clinical Appearance and Attire Policy:

In order to maintain a professional image, each student will be expected to follow these guidelines along with any additional institutional policies. The appropriate dress for off-campus laboratory experiences varies with the course and practice facility. Faculty will direct appropriate attire for individual practice experiences. Modifications for religious accommodations will be honored.   

 

Professional Care Settings include (but may not be limited to) the Professional Practice Lab, Clinical In-Patient Facility, Interprofessional Education Setting and Community Setting

 

Clinical In-Patient Setting and Professional Practice Lab Uniform:

Clinical uniforms and white coats are purchased through MorUniversity Scrubs: http://fau.moruniversity.com/shop.html 

The MorUniversity white (lab) coat is to be worn over the uniform when entering and exiting clinical facilities.   

  • Only plain white under shirts may be worn under the uniform. 
  • White stockings or socks above the ankle.
  • Plain white closed-toe & closed-back shoes. Shoes must not be altered to conceal logos, stripes, or other areas with color. 

 

Community Setting Uniform: 

The blue CON polo shirts are purchased through a specific vendor. This information will be provided to students upon admission to the College of Nursing.

  • The polo is to be worn with loose-fitting tan/khaki dress slacks. 
  • Brown/tan/black closed-toe shoes with socks.

 

Interprofessional Education Setting Uniform

The blue CON polo shirts are purchased through a specific vendor. This information will be provided to students upon admission to the College of Nursing.

  • The polo is to be worn with loose-fitting tan/khaki dress slacks. 
  • Brown/tan/black closed-toe shoes with socks

 

CON Name Badge, FAU Photo ID:

Student must wear the CON name badge as well as the FAU photo ID (Owl card) or facility issued picture ID whenever entering a clinical setting.  

 

Comportment in all Professional Care Settings:

Regardless of the professional care setting, student comportment must be adhered to at all times.

  • Nails must be short (no longer than 3mm (1/4 inch).
  • No nail polish, artificial nails, or nails jewelry.
  • No artificial eyelashes
  • No more than 1 pair of stud or post type earrings are permitted: no hoop or dangle earrings. 
  • No other visible body jewelry
  • No visible tattoos/body art (must be covered)
  • Jewelry - only a watch and wedding band are permitted 
  • Hair is to be worn off the collar, neatly combed, and away from the face (no pony tails). 
  • No fragrances are permissible
  • Uniforms and white coats must be clean and wrinkle-free
  • Shoes must clean and without scuff marks; matching laces (i.e. white shoes, white laces; black/brown shoes, black/brown laces)
