Master’s Nursing Education students traveled to Guatemala
May 14, 2019
Dr. Rhonda Goodman, and 15 College of Nursing BSN students and 4 Master’s Nursing Education students traveled to Guatemala last week. They provided school wellness exams to more than 500 children. As part of the experience, they painted fluoride varnish on their teeth and donated 500 toothbrushes, lots of toothpaste, and a small gift to each child. The team also donated and installed woodstoves to 15 families, which will affect the lives and health of over 70 people in the indigenous Maya population living in extreme poverty. The students had a deep cultural immersion, visiting women’s co-ops, attending a healing ceremony with a Maya shaman, and learning about this beautiful culture.
