Welcome
Nursing Leadership Institute
Message From our Director Rose O. Sherman, EdD, RN, CNAA

Today's nurses must offer a multitude of skills in addition to those directly related to their caring profession. In hospitals and health care institutions, nurses may be managers or team leaders. Many in our profession choose to make a difference in an academic environment, by educating the nurses of tomorrow.

The Nursing Leadership Institute (NLI) at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing was founded in 2002 to provide nurses with the training they require to succeed in a wide range of health care and educational settings. The NLI concept evolved from meetings with nurse executives in the area, who expressed a need to prepare nurse leaders grounded in the essential values of nursing, with the complex knowledge needed to lead competently and compassionately.

NLI education programs are designed using research findings with nursing leaders. Our programs help nurses to enhance their leadership skills in the workplace through continuing education programs and sharing of best practices. The Novice Nursing Leadership Institute (NNLI) was founded in 2006 to address the transition gap between nursing education and entry level practice.

NLI's unique collegiate/community partnership is guided by discussions held regularly with nursing leaders from the South Florida Community. We welcome input from students, faculty and those in the health care community as to continuing education programs in nursing leadership that would be of interest to you.
