Message from Patricia Liehr,
Professor, Associate Dean for Nursing Research and Scholarship
Welcome to the Office of Nursing Research, Scholarship, and PhD Studies at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. The work of this office is grounded in our College's foundation of caring, which guides the way we promote faculty scholarship and the content of our scholarly focus. We believe that caring is central to nursing practice warranting research attention. Our research includes caring-related initiatives that address areas like healthy aging, complementary therapies, health disparities, and transforming nursing practice environments. We use a broad base to conceptualize empirics, ranging from bio-behavioral to narrative indicators. Our intent is to build nursing knowledge that contributes to quality care.
We work with faculty members to create a meaningful scholarship path, with research as the central activity and a vision for nursing knowledge development consistent with our strong appreciation for caring. Much of the work of this office is devoted specifically to the research endeavors of the faculty, providing a base of support for creative proposal planning and development, research completion, and dissemination of findings. Each newly hired faculty member has a mentorship team that guides his/her scholarship activities during the first year at the College. The team critiques manuscripts and research proposals and also supports the scholarship of teaching.
