Preceptor Selection Guidelines

Individual Concentrations May Have Additional Requirements

Preceptor selection is critical to student success in all Master’s concentrations.

Preceptor candidates must be approved by faculty and meet the following qualifications:

  • Earned Graduate degree (preferably in nursing)
  • National certification in their specialty area (preferred but not required for all concentrations; Required for NP concentrations)
  • 2 years experience

Additional qualities of the preceptor should include:

  • Passion for nursing
  • Enthusiasm for coaching and/or mentoring others
  • Patience when working with nurses new to roles
