Opportunities for Nursing Students

To Participate in Healthy Aging Initiatives

Nursing students (including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral) are invited to participate in the development, implementation, and/or evaluation of a variety of initiatives on healthy aging that will become key components of the FAU Institute for Healthy Aging.

Development of Educational Resources on Healthy Aging

  • “Passport to Quality Aging” Program – prevention, screening, health education, and self-management  for older adults
  • Web-based resources and links, e.g.:
  • “Myths and Facts about Quality Aging”, “Art and Aging”, Others

Research

  • South Florida Quality Aging Registry – building a cohort of older adults for a longitudinal study and clinical trials
  • Aging Research Seminars – scheduling and coordination

Quality Improvement Projects

  • STEP Program (Safe Transitions for Elderly People) – reducing post-hospital complications and re-hospitalizations
  • INTERACT II (Interventions to Prevent Avoidable Acute Care Transfers) – implementing clinical practice tools designed to improve care and reduce unnecessary health care expenditures in long-term care
  • Fall Prevention  – Inpatient and outpatient programs for older adults
